Columbus, Ohio, May 15, 2018 – Thomas Media Group presented “Guardians: Never Forget Their Story”, a photo project in the making, at a public kickoff event hosted at the Columbus VA on May 5 and 6. This inaugural event connected project organizer, Michael Thomas with fifteen veterans whose stories will be included in the project.
The “Guardians: Never Forget Their Story” photography project moves ahead in two phases. In Phase One, photographer Michael Thomas will interact with veterans interested in the project and capture images of the participants. In Phase Two, Thomas will create documentary-style video of his conversations with each veteran as they tell their story.
As a Disabled Veteran of the United States Army himself, Thomas hopes to capture stories that would otherwise disappear in time, so that the world is able to remember those that were lost and those that paved the way.
This project stemmed from a photography class with the Wounded Warrior Project that Thomas began teaching in 2017. In the class, he taught photography to veterans as a means of coping with the stresses of combat and loss. After hosting several classes and interacting with multiple veterans like himself, Thomas decided to initiate a photo project that would document his brothers and sisters that have donned the uniform in service to this country. Thomas said, “If we can partner together to make sure no one’s sacrifice goes undocumented, then we can change the way people perceive us as veterans, as warriors, as husbands and as wives. I want to tell our stories, and I want people to understand what putting on a uniform means.” says Thomas.
Currently, the Guardians: Never Forget Their Story photography project has garnered the attention from multiple sponsors and partners, who share the project’s vision of supporting our veterans. These sponsors and partners help elevate the project to the next level.
